- I am VERY displeased with my supra fax modem and the treatment as a customer
- supra as given me about it.
-
- I purchased one of the supra fax modems through the sysop deal in April. After
- waiting a total of 2 odd months i finally received the modem June 6th.
-
- I took it outa the box and hooked it up, set the setting in my machine, and let
- it rip on my bbs. Happy as a bug cause of the new modem. Granted i sold a US
- robotics HST modem to get this, which NEVER missed a lick.
-
- Well first day the problems started. It would random drop people off of my bbs,
- at all rates. I was displeased about this and contacted Supra tech department.
- After getting 25 busy signals the first 25 times i called, i finally got
- through to be put on hold for 20 minutes. Finally i get and answer and i
- explain the situation to them. They inform me that the Amiga is not capable of
- handling 14400 v.32bis so i would have to use this at setting to disable it to
- only negotiate at 9600 or below. Naturally i was quite upset here, and told
- them why did i waste my time and why did they WASTE their time advertising it
- for the Amiga if the machine couldn't support it.
-
- Determined to use this thing, i reran phone lines to my bedroom (assuming that
- poor line quality was the problem) and it did clear it up. I played with the
- setting again, cause the manual says 57600, but 19200 seemd the obvious way to
- go. Mind you it said nothing in the manual about this.
-
- So i go along now for 2 months with it not connecting to some bbs's, people not
- being able to connect to me. I talk to friends who have them and they ALL
- complain that something somewhere is wrong with them. One says his speaker
- blows out, one says he can't download, one says the fax won't work right.
-
- Then supra says that the 1.000e rom (which my modem has) is buggy... After
- saying before that all bugs were caught in pre production stages and the modems
- were '100%', they announce that they will upgrade and send free new roms to all
- registered people (huray).
-
- Then the fun starts... After having a non reliable modem for 2 months, i decide
- again to call Tech support about getting a new modem with new roms cause now MY
- speaker is going in and out. I explain the situaiton and they tell me 'why yes,
- we have had problems with that and the roms' i say good, send me a new modem
- cause this one aint doing me any good and i need it for my bbs and my work. (i
- send/recieve faxes with my place of employment, which usually gets through
- about 80% of the time) They transfer me to sales and i explain to them the
- situation. They tell me that it will be a 20 dollar fee for them to send me a
- modem.
-
- I was under the assumtion that when a manufacture produces defective products
- that are CLEARLY stated under warranty that it is their responsibility to
- repair or replace, that i would NOT have to pay for this. This is one of my
- reasons for going with the Supra, a 5 year warranty. They tell me they are
- sorry to hear that, but it is 20 bucks and they will red label me a new one
- within the week. OR i can send them my modem ups (which i pay for) and they
- will repair it and have it back to me within 2-4 weeks.
-
- If i would have known 3 months ago that this was going to happen, and that i
- was to be treated like a no body and given the run around about their product,
- i would have NEVER invested in it. Because of this, i no more reccomend the
- supra to the K-Mart brand they sell in their computer department. It's ashame
- too, cause supra had a damn fine product with the 2400 series. I hate to see
- them shoot themselves in the foot with this lemon!
-
- BTW, if anyone from Supra reads this and disagrees with my viewpoints, please
- feel free to email me with a response. Because i am to the point of sending
- this modem back and filing a report with the better buisness beureu!
