- I've had the exact symptoms. It is caused by a virus. The virus doesn't
- like write protected disks, as they interfere with it's mating ritual.

- Get a new version of virusx or some other virus check utility. If your
- dealer is a 'walk in', he can prolly give you one or check your disks.

- If I recall correctly, the virus is called 'Lamar II' (the sequel to
- the Lamar Exterminator). However, the slimy penis-wrinkles that distribute
- viruses often steal them from each other and rename them, so what you
- have may be called something else entirely.
