- There are plenty of upgrades that can be made. There are a couple of boards
- that will allow you to install ROM chips in the system, eliminating the need
- for KickStart disks. There are some accellerators out there, but they may be
- hard to find (see my final comments below).

- The 500 peripherals don't exactly work on a 1000, although they can be easily
- hacked to work. On my particular system I have an Insider II board which gives
- me an additional 1.5 MB of RAM, a MicroBotics external RAM interface adding
- another 2MB, and a Supra SCSI interface which controlls my 2 hard drives. In
- addition, I've got WB2.04 running on the system. It's all pretty stable, and
- there isn't much I can't do with it.

- The big problems are that there aren't many people making 1000 peripherals
- anymore, so you are generally limited to used equipment (pretty readily
- available here on the net!). Other options include the Rejuvenator or
- Phoenix boards, which essentially turn the 1000 into a 2000, with some
- expansion slots and the ECS (enhanced chip set), which won't run on a stock
- 1000. Generally, though, the price of upgrading a 1000 in this manner makes
- buying a 2000 a more practical solution.
-
- I'd recommend getting a hard drive and RAM expansion used, and live with
- the rest of the system limitations.
