  28. you want with your machine...

  35. resources required to support the applications you wish to run.

  40. Downward compatibility in this case (and most other cases, as well)
  41. would be *stupid*.  2.04 provides developer's with new features and
  42. libraries not available in the previous OS and it is readily available
  43. for all currently produced Amigas. For applications which make heavy use
  44. of 2.04's added functionality, making them 1.3 compatible is neither
  45. cost/time-effective nor worthwhile.

  47. Not using those new features because some users refuse to upgrade or
  48. have machines so outdated and unsupported they can't run the new OS,
  49. limits what the developer can implement to the most obsolete common
  50. denominator. The result will be inferior software when compared to
  51. competing products (which do make use of the new functionality).

  53. You can't expect the computer industry in general, or Commodore in
  54. specific, to stand still just because you can't afford to or do not wish
  55. to run. If you choose not to keep up with new developments because you
  56. are happy with your current equipment, that's fine, but you have no one
  57. to blame but yourself when you start to feel left behind.
