  20. I have a Fusion Forty 68040 board from RCS Managment and AMaxII runs
  21. fine on it, but you can't use less than AMaxII 2.5.  The problem is
  22. merely that not all MacIntosh programs runs very well on 68040, but
  23. most do. This problem is of course the same on the Mac Quadra.

  25. I do have a more significant problem with the Macintosh emulation,
  26. however.  I have recently installed 7.01 (half an hour ago) which is
  27. said to be the first Mac system that manages the 68040. This system
  28. does, however, still not handle the 68882 emulation correctly. As soon
  29. as I run a program that uses the FPU the program crashes on "Bad
  30. F-Line Instruction". I have also installed the Macsystem for the
  31. Quadra explicitly. It does handle the copy- back mode correctly so
  32. that's ok. I mean the system seem to be aware of running on a 68040.
  33. It may still be so that the floating point exceptions are handled by
  34. the Quadra PROMs.  This is of course a simple problem to solve, the
  35. problem is that I don't like the Mac that much that I want to learn
  36. how to program it and add this exception handling myself (Amiga is
  37. best).

  39. Somebody must have done it already. I mean there are a lot of 68040
  40. accelerator boards for the Mac available out there and it must have
  41. been solved for these. I have asked on the comp.sys.mac.programmer
  42. earlier but the only answer I got was that I have to have system 7.01.
  43. Now I have that but I still have the FPU problem.

  45. I will continue my investigation of this problem and tell you all when
  46. it is solved.
