- Have you considered their 80 megs version? I recently bought a SyQuest
- 88MB internal to my 2000 . The price difference between a 44 and an 88
- Mb is just about $100. I paid $439 for the drive and $115 per cartrige.
- The 44 MB internal was then priced at $329 (Creative Computers). Their
- external kit with cables and one 88Mb cartridge was $669. I don't know
- if this includes power supply. You have better check this.
-
- The difference in media prices it is about the same quote: $80 for 44Mb
- and $115 for 88Mb.
-
- A curious fact is that the SyQuest 88 Mb Cartridge is not 88 * 1024 *
- 1024 byte as one would expect, it is instead about 88.6 * 10^6 bytes,
- i.e. 84Mb.

- I have GVP series II SCSI to my 2000 that has a 25 pin external
- Mac-compatible SCSI-connector. As long as you have such a one it will be
- no problem with your 500 either.

- Some ads say that the external kit includes all necessary cables but I
- think you have better check with the vendor that it is really a 25 pin
- SCSI connector in the controller end of the cable.
-
- One thing that can be good to notify which is not said in the GVP manual:
- Keep the same RDB-structure on all cartridges that you want to be able to
- remove and insert without rebooting! Do also use the same physical name
- on the disks, like SYQ0 or something. Then you will get as little problems
- as possible. I found this information in the manual for a Nexus controller.
-
- My experience is also that you should fix two buttons or similar for
- the GVPScsiCtrl command. I think their default with "GvpScsiCtrl -s"
- did not work as well as having two, one with "GvpScsiCtrl -r" (remove)
- and one with "GvpScsiCtrl -m" (mount). I used the ToolManager for this.
