- Yup. When was the last time you cleaned the tape heads? They should
- be cleaned every 8 hours of use. Also, what kind of tapes are you
- using? I talked to a tech support person at Archive/Viper and he told
- me to use ONLY 3M tapes. I believe him!! The only tapes that have held
- up are the 3Ms I have. The Sony and Verbatums died. So, clean your
- heads and use 3M tapes. Oh. One other thing. The tech support guy
- also said that you should only use one size of tape in the machine. So
- if you start with 6150s you should stick with them and like wise with
- the 6250s. You might be able to read the other size tapes but you will
- have trouble writing them. The reason is that the different tape sizes
- "wear" different patterns on the surface of the head. When the drive
- comes to write to the tape it has a hard time verifying the data
- because the tape isn't lined up correctly.
