-
- Appletalk (actually LocalTalk) electrical spec uses the Synchronous Data Link
- Control (SDLC) protocol. The signalling is based on EIA RS-422, so you would
- have to build a circuit to convert from the RS-232C signalling protocol to RS-
- 422. Actually that wouldn't work well, becuase the effective data rate is
- around 230Kbits/second. I doubt very much if the internal serial port could
- keep up with that data rate even on accelerated machines.
-
- The networking protocols including the printer access protocol are quite
- involved and complicated, not quite a weekend software hacking project I'd
- say.
-
- If you're interested in AppleTalk pick up the book called: Inside AppleTalk,
- second edition, Addison Wesley.
-
- Also, I do recall seeing a posting about AppleTalk for the Amiga, and I even
- managed to drudge it up from my archives... Here's the article:

- The Hydra systems/GVP Ethernet AmigaNet network is a real fast peer-to-peer
- network solution for the Amiga. It doesn't work with 2.0, however. AmigaNet
- for 1.3 is exactly what anyone could ever want in an Amiga networking
- solution,
- with the exception of the lack of a NetBios level interface. The NetBios
- interface
- would allow for developers access to network level communication between
- machines...

- Welp, if you REALLY Must connect your machines via AppleTalk, there is a
- company called DigiFex in Oregon that makes a product for the A500 and A2000
- that allows you to link into a AppleTalk system and share printers, transfer
- files, etc.....I tested a system for awhile and didn't care for it all that
- much, was really slow.... However, its about your only choice that I know of.

- AppleTalk is only 230Kbps, so it's not a speed demon. It _is_ faster than
- your floppy ;-).
-
- Forget about DigiFeX... I own all rights to the code, and will be marketing
- it through CSA (with an 040 attached). I am redesigning it, and doing some
- extreme improvement in interrupt handling which will mean less packet
- collision. Interact is an unsupported product, as is all of the rest of
- CMI's projects that DigiFeX took over. The only product that they are
- currently selling is the V.I.P. (Video Interface Professional).

- Yeh, I modified that to work with my BBX. Nice program, too bad you made
- the new version C-Net specific P-Files (or whatever they're called). If
- you want to see it in action (along with the FF disks on ROM ;-) call. Ok,
- so it was a plug... in the wrong area no less... sorry.
