- Weird problem:
- Just got the ECS chipset for my rev 5 motherboard A1250. (Okay, an
- A500. But it's got a detatched keyboard, Zorro II slots, lots o' ram, a
- 2091, and lives in a tower case. I figure that counts. :-) ) Everything
- works great, 1M chip RAM, all video modes - _except_ productivity.
- I have a Mitsubishi DiamondScan, that's not the problem. :-)
- Here's the weirdness: if pen 0 is black (0/0/0), then everything
- works exactly as advertised. However, if I start remapping pen 0, it
- appears to act as an inverted controller for pen 2, and all the other
- colours start to fade out. It never really comes up from black, either.
- This is all from Workbench.
- It gets stranger: if I drag down Workbench to reveal some other
- screen (I have my coersion set to avoid flicker), that screen appears,
- and _at the top of the screen_, everything is exactly as expected.
- However, as the screen scrolls down, pen zero - and the other pens -
- fade to black.
- Two-colour mode does the same thing, but with pen 1 being altered
- instead of pen 2.
- I don't get this. I doubt it's Denise, as the other "productivity
- mode in drag" modes - SuperHires, which I _love_, god, just get me a
- deinterlacer that works with it - work just fine.
- Anyway. Here's the complete spec set on my Amy:
- A500 Rev 5 motherboard; 512K on the motherboard, 3 meg on an
- AdRAM 540. ECS Agnus and Denise; Agnus is in 1 meg mode. 1 floppy
- drive. Two Zorro II slots (salvaged from an abandoned SubSystem).
- Hard drive is a 52m Quantum (SCSI - but then, what else would it
- be?). Power supply is a BigFoot 200W. Cable was made for me a few
- years ago by Redmond Cable; monitor is a Mitsubishi DiamondScan
- 1381A. Keyboard has been detatched, but yes, I ran shielding.
- Motherboard is vertically mounted in a tower case, ports-up, floppy
- forward. All ports have been extended with fairly standard cables.
- Oh, yeah; 2.04 ROM; 2.04 WB as well. No funky graphics software.
- Modem is a Cardinal 2400. Printer is an HP Series III. I run overscan
- through preferences but not extra-big amounts.
- I've noticed weirdness with the blue level control sliders in
- Preferences before, but have never followed up; that was with the
- old Denise. (Can't duplicate it, even on pen 0, with the new Denise.)
- Replies requested via email instead of to the net, because my
- ability to read this group is kind of random...
- - R'ykandar.
-
- PS: Oh yeah - any tools out there to investigate this kind of thing?
- PPS: I screwed up JP2 when I installed the 1Meg chip. It's connected,
- and works perfectly, but, well... let's just say I don't breathe
- on it. Anyplace else on the otherboard I can get at that signal?
- Thanks also. :-)
