- I've found that v.32 modems seem to work well for terminal emulation. In fact
- I use a modem at my desk quite often and don't notice a large difference vs.
- my directly connected terminal. (or course our terminal servers are not
- great)

- My vote for the Telebit WorldBlazer. Telebit has well thought out modems
- that are very reliable. The WorldBlazer is their newist that has all the
- v.32bis stuff plus their own TurboPEP protocol.

- I've gotten about 1050 bps sustained throughput on my 386 at work with zmodem
- and crosstalk for windows on a v.32 modem. my amiga seems to be closer to
- 800ish but I have never really gotten zmodem to work well. I typically use
- handshake and term. (actually I've given up on term until I get some more
- memory - only have 1 meg and are using the 1 meg display chip - term has a
- tendency to not fit well :-( )

- WorldBlazer (from their litature):
-
- TurboPEP for asynchronous throughputs up to 23,000 bps without compression
- (supports normal PEP as well)
- Fully V.32bis, v.32, v.22bis, v.22, v.23, v.21, bell 212/103 compatible
- Supports DTE speeds of up to 115,200 bps
- CCITT V.42 and PEP error correcting protocol support for error free transmission
- V.42bis and MNP class 5 data compression yields data rates in excess of 70 kbps
- Asynchronous and synchronous operation
- Supports remote configuration and diagnostics
- provides password and callback security
- PTT type approved for connection to the telephone network
- Internal support for UUCP, kermit, xmodem and ymodem
-
- The unit is 2.4" (h) x 8.5" (w) x 13" (d)
- (it's a fair sized unit but i've found that they stay very cool and stack
- very nicely - althought they do have a rack mount version)
- power requirements .55amp max
- operating temperature 50f to 120f
- storage temp -40f to 149f
-
- receiver sensitivity -43 dBm
- transmit level -9dBm default; 0 to -15 dBm
-
- The list price is $1099
