- Is your VMS box in a HSC cluster?
-
- Reason I ask is that a client of mine has been experiencing "stale filehandle"
- problems on clustered VMS systems with the condition caused by ANY anomaly on
- the cluster (i.e. cycling a system, etc.). The problem occurs with the lock
- manager and multiple people/processes appending to data files when, *P*O*O*F*
- everyone starts stepping on each other's data. Problem exists with (at least)
- VMS versions 5.3, 5.4 and 5.5 though there are workarounds [some of which
- require use of structures which are NOT included with any VMS distribution in
- SYS$LIBRARY but are elsewhere (hardcopy) documented.]
-
- The cluster/lock-manager problem "may" affect NFS mounts (I dunno, just a
- guess).
