  14.     There has been an on-going project called "MULE," which is
  15. a multi-ligual GNU EMACS.  I wonder if those folks who wrote GNU EMACS for
  16. the Amiga would be interested in porting MULE over to the Amiga.  Just now
  17. the Amiga lacks a good multi-ligual text editor, MULE might be a good 
  18. alternative.

  56. We have started beta testing Mule (MULtilingual Enhancement
  57. to GNU Emacs) and are now trying to find "rugged" users who
  58. are familiar with both GNU Emacs and one of the languages
  59. that Mule can support.
  60.  
  61. Mule is a modified version of GNU Emacs 18.58, it is
  62. distributed as a complete tar file or as a patch to 18.58.
  63. Mule can support a larger set of characters sets, such as
  64. Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Europeans.
  65.  
  66. Mule can handle all these languages in the *same* buffer,
  67. meaning that you can mix text from different languages.
  68. (Neat if you are translating from one language to another.)
  69.  
  70. Mule supports the following inputting methods:
  71. ENGLISH: Just type in. :-)
  72. JAPANESE: You have plenty of choises.
  73.     EGG, EGG-SJ3, CANNA (these are bundled with Mule),
  74.     SKK, boiled-egg (these are in 'contrib' directory).
  75. CHINESE, KOREAN, EUROPEAN:
  76.     Please use 'quail' system.

  78. New input methods should not be that hard to write.  If you
  79. run Mule under a specilized terminal emulator (such as
  80. exterm or cxterm) which supports an input method you can use
  81. that.

  83. As for Chinese handling, please look into hz2gb.el in
  84. contrib/lisp.tar.Z.  This allows quite convenient way to
  85. read and post articles of newsgroup alt.chinese.text for a
  86. GNUS user.

  88. As for fonts of European characters, Mr. Takahashi
  89. contributed 14dots and 24dots fonts for Latin1,2,3,4,5,
  90. Greek and Cyrillic.  Those fonts are in fonts/ETL.tar.Z.

  100. ftp just the patch file diff-18.58-0.9.5 and apply that.

  103. in Mule's mailing list.  Please gather together and write
  104. code for free input methods, or sign up to port an existing
  105. input method.
