-
- TeX outputs a 'device independant' file. You can then feed this file to
- a TeX device driver (screen previewer, or printer driver).
-
- These read the device independant dvi file, and font files at the appropriate
- resolution, to produce the final page.
-
- You can output to postcript or non-postscript printers. It doesn't normally
- use the amiga printer drivers, because the purpose built ones are a lot
- faster.
-
- The font files are held at particular resolutions, but are created from a
- mathematical 'font program' by a program called 'metafont', so
- new resolutions can easily be created if required.
-
- Some implementations of TeX will let you use postscript fonts (even on
- non-postscript printers).
