- DigiFAX is our UNIX/386 (any flavor) FAX system. If you get the
- system, you can get the JetRoff disks free for the asking. They'll
- take DWB 2.x troff and drive either the HP LaserJets, or the DigiFAX
- system. Unfortunately, since FaxiX became DigiFAX and I became
- a DigiBoard employee, you can no longer get JetRoff by itself
- or in source form (other than the original shareware version, which
- doesn't support FAX).

- If you mean DWB, good luck!

-
- ditroff only knows about font descriptions (i.e. width files). It
- can't download fonts and has no idea what rasters are. That's up
- to the device specific postprocessor to deal with (such as jetroff's
- "djet"). How you create downloadable fonts depends on the postprocessor
- you use. The ditroff width tables are prepared from ASCII files
- and processed using "makedev", or the public domain equivalent "mkfont"
- program. The rasters themselves are downloaded by the postprocessor,
- and must be in a format palatable to it. In the case of JetRoff,
- that is Knuth's MetaFont packed format. I don't remember if
- the shareware version of JetRoff had the tools, but the version
- in DigiFAX can convert HP Softfont files into MetaFont format for
- use by JetRoff. The djet postprocessor reads those files, extracts
- only the glyphs needed by a particular document, and downloads them
- to the printer.
-
- A lot has changed in the couple of years since I last worked on
- JetRoff. I suspect that GNU's groff or psroff may be a more complete
- solution if you don't mind getting your hands dirty and don't need
- FAX. I'm pretty much out of the typesetting game these days. Though
- I use JetRoff for everything I do here, I haven't messed with the
- code since it became DigiBoard's.
