  34. First off, you probably don't want this in your Systems file.  If you're
  35. trying to use it to get to the modem directly (to see settings, etc.), 
  36. you should use the following:

  38.         cu -d -ltty000

  52. This occurs because cu sees the the Direct entry in your Systems file
  53. and thinks that you are calling a system with that name, then times
  54. out because of an unsuccessful connection to that "system", as is noted
  55. below.
