- 1) I'm looking for the Fortran 77 compiler that is maintained by a
- college professor (in Colorado?) and shipped as part of Berkeley Unix;
- I tried UUNET, but couldn't identify it if it is there. Can anyone give
- me an FTP address and instructions for acquiring this compiler in
- source code form if it is still available public domain? One
- complication: I'm running the Unisys version of SCO System V R 3.2 Unix
- (a real dog), on a Unisys 80386 box; someone let me know if I'm wasting
- my time because the compiler lacks a backend that produces 80386 code.
-
- 2) I've acquired a version of the XGKS source code distribution (this
- is the Graphical Kernel System 2-D computer graphics software standard,
- adapted to X Windows) with C and Fortran bindings, However, it is put
- together with Imake, which I don't much understand and don't have. Can
- someone point me to an FTP site for Imake source code, and to some
- accessible documentation on Imake?
-
- 3) While I'm at it, is there an Ada binding for XGKS?
-
- 4) Silly but true; the X Windows system delivered with the Unisys box
- binds its windows to VT102 rather than ANSI standard screen character
- controls, and naturally the host HP machine to which I log in under X
- Windows multiple times a day doesn't happen to contain a VT102 among
- its termcap entries. Anyone out there willing to cut the VT102 entry
- out of their /etc/termcap and send it along? Offer first, please, so I
- don't end up with a few thousand of them.
-
- 5) I'd be ecstatic to do my current project, involving porting tropical
- cyclone forecasting code from MS-DOS, GKS, and Fortran to Unix, X
- Windows, with Ada, and with PHIGS (Programmer's Heirarchical Interface
- to Graphics Systems). I helped write the GKS standard, I love it like a
- baby, and it still does good work, but frankly it is showing its age,
- and I'd like to switch to PHIGS in the rewrite if possible. I'm vaguely
- aware pf an effort called PEX (PHIGS Embedded in X) underway at MIT
- (but they didn't offer me a job when I asked) and would like to know if
- it or something similar is yet available, and if so how to access it,
- and what language bindings are available with it.
-
- Please email responses, I don't have read access to news for at least
- another year. Many thanks for any help offered.
