  16. I think this gives me some motivation.  I already have a freeware assembler
  17. going on archive soon, and am seriously considering coming out with a full
  18. 8051/8096 product line, taking a chunk of Franklin and Archimedes market share
  19. in the process.

  21. It sounds like there's a need for *good* products and support, as opposed to
  22. products and support.

  24. I'd like to hear some more details from all of you people.  Is there a
  25. significant need for the following:

  27.     (1) A full-featured 8051 assembler?
  28.     (2) 8051 debugger
  29.     (3) 8051 simulator software source toolkit
  30.     (4) 8051 C compiler
  31.     (5) A software source toolkit for doing multitasking on the 8051
  32.     (6) 8051 controller boards
  33.     (7) 8051 development boards
  34.     (8) Good real-life 8051 demo software and applications notes
  35.  
  36. (3) and (5) have to be made in the form of source code toolkits because there
  37. simply is no way to come up with self-contained simulators or kernels that are
  38. both generic and small (small kernel meaning: < 50 bytes code, < 20 registers).

  40. In a way I can easily answer all these questions: yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
  41. yes, and yes.  In fact, the processor is so popular that many vendors are
  42. consistently reporting their supplies being sold out.  That makes for a huge
  43. market on 8051-related products.
