- Since I was the last one to ask this question here, I'll answer it this time.

- NTP is Version 1 of the protocol. XNTP is Version 2 of the protocol. XNTP3
- is Version 3.

- NTP is quite small, but getting old -- it apparently won't talk to some
- XNTP3 processes. XNTP is very large, and not well-suited to just doing
- simple time synchronization -- it's more geared to large sites with local
- clocks who are time servers for LOTS of hosts on the network. Not sure
- about XNTP3.
