- I have been looking for something to synchronise time across a mixed group of
- Unix boxes - mostly Suns and 68k-based SVR3 systems. I have been directed to
- this group, and have been reading it for a couple of months now but have not
- yet seen any sign of a FAQ, or any simple explanation of what NTP is and what
- it can do for me.
-
- In particular, I have two questions:
-
- 1. I have seen mention of both NTP and XNTP. Are they two implementations
- of the same thing or what? If they are different, how would I decide
- which to use?
-
- 2. Much of the discussion in this group seems to relate to synchronisation
- to external clocks. Is this the primary reason for using NTP or is it
- suitable just for synchronising a local group of systems.
