  14. I have been looking for something to synchronise time across a mixed group of
  15. Unix boxes - mostly Suns and 68k-based SVR3 systems. I have been directed to
  16. this group, and have been reading it for a couple of months now but have not
  17. yet seen any sign of a FAQ, or any simple explanation of what NTP is and what
  18. it can do for me.

  20. In particular, I have two questions:

  22. 1. I have seen mention of both NTP and XNTP. Are they two implementations
  23.    of the same thing or what? If they are different, how would I decide
  24.    which to use?
  25.  
  26. 2. Much of the discussion in this group seems to relate to synchronisation
  27.    to external clocks. Is this the primary reason for using NTP or is it
  28.    suitable just for synchronising a local group of systems.
