- WinQVT/Net includes an NNTP newsreader, if you like to live in Windows. It is
- okay, but there are a few annoyances:
-
- o There is no BOOTP support (RARP is supported).
-
- o If there are more than ten unread articles in a group, only the first
- five titles are fetched. You have to hit Ctrl/M or click Ctrl/MORE
- to load the whole group.
-
- o Uses its own TSR to link back to the packet driver. Everything else
- that I use goes through WINPKT.
-
- o Like Trumpet, once you read a message and exit, the message is no
- longer offered even though the server still has it. I dislike this
- intensely; I'd rather have them displayed with a mark indicating
- "already read".
-
- o Like Trumpet, there is no concept of threads. "References:" headers
- cannot be followed.
-
- I'd be interested in hearing about other share/freeware NNTP clients,
- especially for Windows. I'm accustomed to ANU News under VMS, and the PC
- products that I've seen are very different (and less in tune with my style).
