- Peter and the rest:
-
- The referenced article was published in ERCIM No 9 (about one page
- long). ERCIM is an acronym for European Research Consortium for
- Informatics and Mathematics. A number of european research institutes
- are publishing this paper.
-
-
- GMD/Fokus (the german ERCIM Member) has developed a prototype for
- External References in E-Mail. The author of the mail can decide
- which parts of the mail should be placed in a public (?) database
- instead of being delivered by mail. The extracted parts are replaced
- by a "external reference", which can be used to retrieve the data
- from the database by the receiver.
-
- It is possible to create something like "news" with this approach. An
- author can create a reference for multiple use, that means that you
- can resolve the reference more than once. It is also possible, to
- replace the piece of data in the database. This allows something like
- updating the news.
- The prototype can be demonstrated (based on NeXTstep User Interface),
- but there is no public available piece of code outside of GMD. The
- prototype does not use special features of X.400, because the
- reference-data is placed inside of the ascii-body. But we are working
- on this issue.
- If you need more information please send a mail.
