- I need recommendations on the best way to configure our appletalk network.
- We have an ethernet with multiple IP subnets on it. In each subnet are
- Unix/Cap hosts. We also have Macs running phase II on each subnet.
- There is a Fastpath 5 on the cable with NO localtalk attached and
- two fastpath 4s (with 4.1 proms) acting as localtalk to IP routers.
- I need to a beginners explanation of what the atalkatab should look like
- on this type of cable as well as the appropriate atalk.local and etalk.local
- files for CAP. For sake of argument assume the following
- 1) Ip subnets are 128.2.1, 128.2.2 and 128.2.3 with subnet mask
- 255.255.255.0 and we use the 4.2 type of broadcast address
- namely 128.2.1.0 and 128.2.2.0 and 128.2.3.0 for each of the
- subnets respectivley.
- 2) the fastpath 5 is attached to subnet 128.2.1 with no localtalk
- 3) the fastpath 4s are attached to the other subnets and each has
- a localtalk network connected to it.
- 4) There are multiple cap servers on each subnet
- 5) we are free to assign new subnets to contain the fastpaths
- if this is recommended
- 6) we control assignment of the addresses to the nodes on our
- network including the fastpaths and appletalk
-
- Sample atalkatabs and atalk.locals and recommended configuations for the
- fastpaths would be most welcome. Please reply directly to me by e-mail
- and I will summarize.
-
- thanks
