- Thanks to several helpful replies, I WAS able to rescue all my data :-)
- The technique I finally decided to use was to disassemble the 3.5" disks,
- allowing the inner sleeves to dry out. Then I put them back together (Note:
- some of the snap tabs broke during disassembly, so I taped the two halves
- together. Also, I couldn't seem to put the spring and metal protective plate
- back in, so I just left them off) and copied off the data. The first time I
- tried to copy the data, I got numerous "Abort, Retry, Ignore?" messages, so I
- tried again. The second time, there were no such errors - I guess the disk
- needed some excercise to get aligned properly. (The disks are now considered
- unusable.)
-
- The other emailed suggestion was to put the disks in an oven at low heat
- (like 120 degrees F) to accelerate the drying process. This process would
- presumably not damage the disks.
