- World Congress Centre, Melbourne, Australia
- Monday 7th to Wednesday 9th December, 1992
-
-
-
-
- The Fifth Australian Supercomputing Conference, with
- "Supercomputing - The Competitive Advantage" as its theme, is
- scheduled for Melbourne's World Congress Centre from December
- 7 to 9 , 1992.
-
- While recognising the importance of the association of
- scientific and engineering research with the supercomputer,
- a major Conference objective is to ensure that
- connections are made between commerce, industry and research;
- between people, ideas, technologies and tools. This is the
- direction of world industry and commerce, and it must become
- the Australian way.
-
- VENUE
-
- The Conference venue will be the World Congress Centre Melbourne,
- located on the corner of Spencer and Flinders Streets Melbourne,
- adjacent to the scenic Yarra River, and close to the business
- heart of Melbourne.
-
- THE CONFERENCE PROGRAMME
-
- The theme for the Fifth Australian Supercomputing Conference -
- SUPERCOMPUTING - THE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE, has been chosen in
- order to highlight the need for Australian business, industry and
- commerce to take advantage of supercomputing, to gain a
- competitive advantage in global markets. Research institutions
- are already experienced Supercomputing users, and are poised to
- assist business in the use of this technology.
-
- The Conference Programme Committee is planning to schedule
- sessions designed specifically to encourage senior management
- participation, and attendance from the wider business community.
-
- Invitations are being extended to a number of distinguished
- speakers from Australia and overseas to address the conference
- issues, and a number of specialist individuals will be sponsored
- by the various companies which manufacture and market
- supercomputers and associated services. The Fifth Australian
- Supercomputing Conference will include plenary sessions, con-
- current streams and poster sessions.
-
-
- Papers are especially invited on the uses of supercomputing in
- the following areas:
-
- Agribusiness research, automotive design and testing, banking and
- finance, chemical analysis, drug design and testing, financial
- modelling, industrial design and production, weather forecasting
- and climate-change research, mining analysis, other scientific
- and technical applications.
-
- Papers addressing issues of future technologies, including
- networking, software, hardware and storage systems, are also very
- welcome.
-
-
- HOSTS
-
- The Fifth Australian Supercomputing Conference in Melbourne is
- being hosted by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and
- The University of Melbourne.
-
-
- ASSOCIATED EVENTS
-
- A Supercomputing and trade exhibition will be held featuring
- supercomputers, mini-supercomputers, massively parallel
- computers, high performance workstations, software, peripherals,
- storage systems, industry services and bureaux, and publications.

- INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS
-
-
- FIRST AND FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS
-
- The scope of the Fifth Australian Supercomputing Conference will
- include (but not be restricted to) the following themes:
-
- * RESEARCH AND APPLICATIONS FOR BUSINESS, COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY
-
- Papers describing the use of Supercomputing in business
- and industrial applications will be especially welcome.
-
- * SCIENTIFIC/RESEARCH APPLICATIONS AND DEVELOPMENT
-
- Papers should describe the use of Supercomputing in
- research advances, or describe research on algorithms,
- architectures for high performance computing, or
- application of research to real world problems.
-
- All papers will be refereed and must be submitted according to
- the conditions outlined below. Presentation at the Conference
- will not preclude later publication elsewhere, but papers must
- not be presented to any other scientific body before the
- Conference.
-
- There will be a prize of a portable personal computer for the
- best delivered paper.
-
- PREPARATION OF ABSTRACTS AND PAPERS
-
- * Original research papers and application-oriented papers, that
- have not been previously presented and, that describe new
- technical contributions in topic areas, are solicited.
-
- * Initially, papers, or an abstract of up to 200 words are
- invited, and may be sent by e-mail to csrcb@mel.dit.csiro.au.
- The authors' names, affiliations, complete return address of the
- first author , e-mail address, telephone and facsimile numbers
- should also be included.
-
- * The date, time and session for presentation will be determined
- when the Programme Committee has refereed all submissions, and
- all authors will be notified. Some papers may be accepted for
- poster presentation.
-
- * Each author must submit an original plus three photo copies of
- the paper.
