  15. we are currently looking for tools visualizing the performance behaviour of
  16. parallel programs. We are parallelizing Lisp for the Manna architecture
  17. (distributed memory, i860 processor). Our current simulation environment
  18. is a SUN or a SUN net, respectively. So the tool should run on SUN with X.
  19. At the moment we only want to visualize data from traces and simulations
  20. (simulation is also still to be written). Later, however, there will be the
  21. need for visualizing real data from runs on the Manna computer. The operating
  22. system group also needs visualization, so we would prefer a more general
  23. solution than just being able to visualize our Lisp output. (Our operating
  24. system PEACE is written in C++, and our Lisp system has a C interface.)

  26. One tool which we have considered is ParaGraph. It seems us to be quite nice
  27. but is limited to 16 nodes. In addition we will try the Topsys system from
  28. the Technical University of Munich. Within an article of Kathleen Nichols in
  29. IEEE Software, 1990, I found descriptions of Simple/Care and of Axe (for DEC
  30. only?) which seemed me to be quite interesting. Does anyone know where I can
  31. get more information about Simple/Care and where I can get the software?
  32. (it is announced to be public domain) Has anyone experience with it?

  34. I am also interested in information about any other performance visualization
  35. tools which might be appropriate for our purposes.
