- Thank you all for your feedback on the VxWorks 5.0 Reference Manual.
- I wish this response could have been more timely, but I've just
- returned from vacation.
-
- You will be interested to know that all the main points you raise have
- been under discussion here at WRS for some time. Your timing is
- fortuitous because we are now finalizing plans as to how the manual will
- be organized for the next release. Highlights:
-
- (1) The organization of the new manual will revert to the 4.0 style.
- That is, subroutine entries will be separated from module entries
- and will be organized alphabetically in their own section, eliminating
- the need for a master index.
-
- Despite the fact that most feedback over the past year has indicated
- that customers prefer the 4.0 style, many users have also told us
- that they actually liked the 5.0 organization better.
-
- (2) The omission of page headings indicating the current module or
- subroutine was an embarrassing oversight in the 5.0 Reference Manual.
- You'll notice that such headings were added in the BSP supplements
- that were subsequently published -- these headings will appear in
- the new version.
-
- (3) The directory setup and file-naming convention for on-line man pages
- will match the standard UNIX scheme, enabling the use of UNIX man
- instead of vwman.
-
- We appreciate thoughtful discussion about our product -- it helps keep
- us on track.
