  15. Thank you all for your feedback on the VxWorks 5.0 Reference Manual.
  16. I wish this response could have been more timely, but I've just
  17. returned from vacation.

  19. You will be interested to know that all the main points you raise have
  20. been under discussion here at WRS for some time.  Your timing is
  21. fortuitous because we are now finalizing plans as to how the manual will
  22. be organized for the next release.  Highlights:
  23.  
  24. (1) The organization of the new manual will revert to the 4.0 style.
  25.     That is, subroutine entries will be separated from module entries
  26.     and will be organized alphabetically in their own section, eliminating
  27.     the need for a master index.
  28.  
  29.     Despite the fact that most feedback over the past year has indicated
  30.     that customers prefer the 4.0 style, many users have also told us
  31.     that they actually liked the 5.0 organization better.

  33. (2) The omission of page headings indicating the current module or
  34.     subroutine was an embarrassing oversight in the 5.0 Reference Manual.
  35.     You'll notice that such headings were added in the BSP supplements
  36.     that were subsequently published -- these headings will appear in
  37.     the new version.

  39. (3) The directory setup and file-naming convention for on-line man pages
  40.     will match the standard UNIX scheme, enabling the use of UNIX man
  41.     instead of vwman.
