- Can somebody tell me whther ethey have had this problem before?
-
- We have about 20 VAXes in our plant at various VMS revisions, the oldest being
- 5.4-2 and the newest being 5.5. Three of our VAXes are still at 5.4-2 (for
- reasons I won't go in to here).
-
- Several times, now, all three of the systems have "stopped" within several
- seconds of each other. By "stopped" I mean that the response time goes to
- minutes for even the simplest command. Any one trying to log in over the
- network gets an "insufficient resources at remote node" message and can't get
- in. The only way to fix the problem seems to be a re-boot.
-
- When we DID get in to look at the System, we were fine for Memory and stuff, but
- the CPU was being totally taken up by the LATACP process, which was doing very
- little I/O, but killing the CPU.
-
- Looking at network traffic, we discovered that there was a vast amount of LAT
- traffic (although we don't have the tools to find out where from/to,
- unfortunately).
-
- We have Digital Support working on this one for us, and have given them Crash
- Dumps and things, but I was wondering if there was anyone else out there who has
- noticed similar behaviour and how (apart from potentially upgrading the
- Operating System) it was fixed.
-
- Any information would be gratefully accepted.
-
- Yours virtually,
-
