- Mostly true. Mostly not fine. We have a pair of 4000/200s, each with a
- TSV05 9-track drive and a M7530-PA controller. I don't know if this is
- DSSI or SCSI. I haven't had multivolume problems, but I've had plenty of
- others. DEC says that BACKUP is expecting more of the retry and error
- handling to be done at the controller level, as controllers get more
- sophisticated. So it makes sense that COPY works better than BACKUP.
- Our problems are that errors can
- make the drive go offline, leading to mount verification and abort.
- Sometimes the controller is left in a mode that will cause it to erase
- the label on the next tapes mounted, BEFORE the label is read,
- without operator verification. Other cases lead to a LEF hang, in which
- the BACKUP is waiting forever.
-
- We are working with DEC on the problem. They would prefer that we use
- the TK70 for backup. We would prefer to use 9-track, having an
- abundant supply of media. Don't try our configuration. (Maybe the
- SCSI controller makes a difference.)
