- I have to get a VAX/VMS machine talking to the Internet, but the
- configuration is looking a little odd, so I want to find all my
- options.
-
- The problem is to permit the VAX users to telnet out to Internet
- sites, with the following twist: these users are logging into the
- VAX through an X.25 data network, DATAPAC to be precise.
-
- DATAPAC charges users by the packet, so these users have X.3
- parameters set for carriage-return packet forwarding, for
- line-at-a-time operation.
-
- Rumaging around in Internet RFC's for a while, I found RFC1184: the
- telnet linemode option, which appears to be what I want.
- Unfortunately, after calling lots of vendors, it seems that no
- currently available TCP/IP product for VAX/VMS supports this.
-
- There is a rumour around that UCX 2.0 will support it, but I am
- wondering just how it will behave? (what will it look like to the user?)
- Does any other company have support for this in the works?
-
- thanks,
