- Sure, there are obvious enhancements that could be made. The packet
- size is dependant on the hardware, ie, i/d space support, swap max and
- so on. Sliding windows would be nice, and ...
-
- I would have to ask, though, is it worth the trouble? Kermit-11 started
- life on an 11/70 that needed to talk to a VT180 (?). From there, K11
- evolved over the years from 1983 to current as a fairly full functioned
- implementation. These days, we are all doing campus networks, and
- putting a lot of time and energy into kermit-11 makes no sense.
-
- The biggest issue with K11 was to be able to provide a consistant
- interface and capability across ann of DEC's 11 os's. I was loath to
- give RSTS users something that I could not provide for RT11 and
- RSX11M/M+. Now days, we have OS custom versions (Billy Youldelman's RT11
- modes, for example, and Hansrudi Wipf's RT11 modes)
-
- I no longer have any PDP-11's except for the 11/23+ at home, which I
- should trash anyway. Thus building a 'new' Kermit-11 is out of the
- question. Consider testing under rt11, rsts/e, rsx11m, rsx11mplus, tsx+
- then add in i/d space, rmsres vs rms linked, and so on...
-
-
- No, if anyone wants to work on Kermit-11, go ahead. I no longer have the
- time, hardware or interest.
