  14. I am really trying hard to find a use for OS/2 :-)

  16. But I keep coming up with missing pieces to every puzzle I try to solve.

  20. OS/2 has a great HPFS that would make it well suited for a usenet news
  21. server (for example). :-)

  23. For about $300/node I can set up TCP/IP and NFS to share files between
  24. OS/2 and MS-DOS/Windows platforms :-(

  26. If I leave OS/2 out of the picture, I can use Novell NetWare Lite to get
  27. the same functionality as TCP/IP and NFS in a small local area net, for
  28. only about $70/node. :-)

  30. But then I am stuck with a FAT file system. :-(

  32. What I really want is Novell NetWare Lite for OS/2 or else a much cheaper
  33. source for TCP/IP and NFS for DOS/Windows [I want DOS nodes to be able to
  34. "publish" network volumes as well as "mount" them.]

  36. Does anyone have any idea of a way that I can get this functionality at a
  37. reasonable cost?

  39. I don't consider Novell Regular 2.xx or 3.xx to be reasonable cost --
  40. what I want is a simple inexpensive peer-to-peer network that 8086
  41. and 80286 processor nodes can participate in.

  43. Or have the vendors involved (Novell, IBM, etc.) conspired to suppress
  44. the functionality that I want in order to enhance sales of more expensive
  45. solutions [that may be worth it if I needed their full functionality,
  46. which I don't]? :-(

  48. Someone on the net suggested that I get a patch for OS/2 that would run
  49. NWLITE in a DOS box, but I can't find the file "netwlsrv.zoo" on the
  50. FTP server that I was told to look on [hobbes] -- I think that they just 
  51. reorganized their directory structure. Anyone know where to get this 
  52. patch?
