- Oh good grief!
-
- I've been running OS/2 2.0 on my 386/25 6MB for
- some time now. (In fact I bought it on the first
- day of general release in April.)
-
- I've been using a dual boot setup on my 65MB RLL drive
- (OS.2 vs DOS 5). I finally decided that I'd rather have
- a boot manager setup instead (I've used boot manager before
- too, but not on this disk. I used a SCSI disk and
- a borrowed Adaptec 1542B that time.) So.......
-
- I booted up from floppy, repartitioned the disk as
-
- 1 MB boot manager.
- 25 MB FAT (DOS 5) - primary
- 36 MB FAT (OS 2) - logical
-
- then I aborted the installation, and booted DOS (from floppy)
- and installed it (DOS) on the C: partition.
-
- All OK so far.
-
- Then I rebooted from floppy, set the D: partition as Installable
- and installed OS/2 - several times.
-
- Everything procedes smoothly until after the last floppy
- is insterted and OS/2 is rebooted to build the desktop.
-
- The desktop never appears. There's a lot of disk activity,
- but no desktop. After a while, the activity stops and the
- system appears stuck. The mouse pointer moves, but the keyboard
- and mouse buttons have no effect. (No response from Ctrl-Esc
- - even after waiting a miniute, nor Ctrl-Alt-Del) I've even
- tried to install the tutorial - perhaps there's a clue here -
- the tutorial runs for a while then freezes out.
-
- If I reset and reboot, theres still no desktop. If I boot DOS
- (the boot manager works!) I can see all the files I'd expect
- on the D: partition. (all the OS2 directories, OS2!2_0.2 0 - or
- whatever it's called etc.)
-
- Like I said. This machine used to run OS/2 under dual boot. Now
- it dos'n't run under boot manager. It does run DOS though. If I
- boot from floppy, I can access all the files on D: just fine.
-
- Any ideas?
-
- BTW. I have to use the IBMINT13.I13 fix to install OS/2, so it's
- not the "RLL meets AT- BUS" problem; and the Crtl-Shift-F1
- reform the desktop dos'n't work. There isn't a desktop
- to reform!
