- I read many news about "slow OS/2". I can't agree!
-
- I have seen the porting of a big application program (a 3D CAD) from OS/2
- PM 1.3 to OS/2 PM 2.0. The porting required about only two weeks and involved
- the change of the compilers: from MS C and MS FORTRAN to Watcom C and Watcom
- FORTRAN. The speed gain in graphics is not remarkable (perhaps due the
- 16 bit GRE) but the the internal data processing is 3-5 times faster in
- the new version.
-
- About the slow Win-OS2 the answer is simple: Windows 3.1 is faster than
- Windows 3.0 (and Win-OS2 is basically a Windows 3.0). If you want to improve
- Win-OS2 speed you must add RAM to eliminate the memory swapping. I passed
- from 8M RAM to 16M and the performance gain is very good.
-
- If you want to run only Windows applications, use Windows 3.1.
- If you want speed you need 32 bit software. I know that there are few true
- 32 bit applications, but I hope that there will be!
