- I have a Farenheit 1280/D and you can use all the resolutions in a
- DOS full screen session but you have to be very careful!! Since OS/2 doesn't
- recognize the 1280 (via SVGA ON) it has no idea how to restore register
- settings when switching modes. This means that if I was running Windows full
- screen at 1024x768x256 and switched to OS/2's WPS things would be totally
- messed up (I learned the hard way!). But as long as you stay in that full
- screen session and don't switch to the WPS things work fine, at least for me.
- Once in a while some garbage gets onto the WPS screen but it's still readable
- and choosing "Refresh" from the Desktop menu clears things up.
- To get back to the WPS safely, after running in a hi-res mode, I
- first exit from WINOS2 back to a regular text mode full screen and THEN
- back to the WPS. Kinda confusing but here is the procedure I use to start
- Windows session in 800x600x256 with my 1280/D. I have two Windows SYSTEM.INI
- files, one with the line to load my F1280 Windows driver, for hi-res modes,
- called SVGASYS.INI, and the other a copy of the SYSTEM.INI installed by the
- OS/2 installation called VGASYS.INI.
-
- 1) Start a DOS full-screen session.
- 2) I run a batch file which copies SVGASYS.INI to SYSTEM.INI and
- then starts WINOS2.
- 3) Exit WINOS2, returning to a full-screen DOS session.
- 4) Copy VGASYS.INI back to SYSTEM.INI.
- 5) Exit the DOS session and if the WPS is a little out of whack
- use "Refresh" from the desktop menu to restore things to normal.
-
- All this means that I can't run SVGA apps in the background but until
- Orchid comes out with OS/2 drivers I can live with it!
-
- Hope this helps,
