- We have found putting localtalk cards in Intel based machines to be
- unsatisfactory in all cases. Here is how my OS/2 talks to the laserwriter
- on the apple network:
-
- 1. We run Kip/CAP on our Ultrix machine and set the laserwriter up as
- spooled printer. In the near future, I am going to switch to the
- Caymon product that lets the Gatorbox control the printer.
- 2. Install a laserwriter driver in OS/2 pointed to a non-existant
- parallel port, then run lprmon to catch the print files and send
- them to the 'remote' printer. This is all done under IBM TCP/IP.
-
- NOTE: I have used the Clarkson packet drivers to get network
- functions, including printing to the Apple network, from
- a DOS session under OS/2. This to requires a remote printer
- set up. I created a DOS image with the drivers installed.
- This might work for the Apple card, but I doubt that OS/2
- could talk to the printer. Also, Farallon may have new drivers
- for that card. We use it from Windows, but havn't (and won't)
- try it for OS/2.
