- ATI has just released new Windows 3.0 drivers for the VGA Wonder- and
- Integra-series cards which fix almost all the problems with switching
- between the Workplace Shell and a full-screen WINOS2 session. The
- cursor no longer disappears, the screen no longer loses sync, and the
- cursor no longer acts like a paintbrush (all problems I have had with
- various of the old drivers).
-
- I have tried all of the supplied drivers with Joel Armengaud's
- 1024x768/256 PM driver, and all work perfectly, except for the ATI
- 640x480/32K driver, which changes the WPS colours to some very strange
- ones, but otherwise works fine. The colours revert to normal when you
- exit windows. There is also another driver included which I suspect is
- 800x600/32K, but it is not mentioned in the Windows setup file, and
- doesn't work on my machine. You may need a more recent version of the
- card than I have to use this mode.
-
- The only noticeable change (other than the lack of problems) is that
- the drivers seem to take a little longer switching back to the WINOS2
- session. NOTE: you may need to set VIDEO_SWITCH_NOTIFICATION to ON in
- the WINOS2 session's DOS settings. There is also a slight improvement
- in the 16-colour modes: the highlight bar is now blue instead of black,
- if anyone cares.
-
- I have placed the drivers in the pub/downloads directory on
- ftp-os2.nmsu.edu, filename "atiwin30.zoo". It was repacked directly
- from the zip file I uploaded from the ATI BBS yesterday. It will
- probably migrate to another directory soon. I also put the file in
- pub/pc/win3/uploads on ftp.cica.indiana.edu (same name) if that is
- better for anyone.
