- I've discovered some very strange things about the way OS/2 and the Trident
- drivers interact.
-
- I've learned some interesting things, but in the process I broke my
- svgadata.pmi file, and nothing I do will get it back to working
- condition.
-
- For a while I've been cursing the Trident drivers for being buggy, and also
- for not letting me run Ultima Underworld. Well, I'm sure the Trident drivers
- are buggy for the Desktop, but I'm not so sure anymore about the Ultima bug.
-
- Ultima underworld can ran with the IBM VGA drivers, if you follow some
- tricks. BUt with the Trident drivers: no luck. But a day ago I was
- playing with the modetest command for the video card, and amzingly I
- was able to play Underworld! Unfortunately I can't repaet this feat.
- Argh! But since I had to fiddle with so many video modes, god knows
- what state the video registers were in when I *was* able to play.
-
- This all leaves me highly suspicious of the vsvga.sys and the bvhsvga stuff.
- When I got Ultima UW running, I thought "great, Ill type SVGA ON, and
- the setup will be saved, and then UW will work" Big mistake. UW still doesnt
- run, and now svgadata.pmi is wrecked, and now I've got crap on screen when
- switching back to the desktop from fullscreen (OS/2 or DOS) sessions.
- Surprisingly, switching back frmo Windows doesn't leave crud on screen.
-
- BTW, I've tried every video patch released for OS/2, with no luck.
-
- Anyway, aside from determining the nature of these bugs, this doesn't help
- me much. Does anyone know how the svgadata.pmi file is defined? Does
- anyone know about Trident video drivers?
