- A few weeks ago I posted about a problem I was having installing OS/2 on
- an EISA machine. This machine is an Intel Xpress, and I think it is the
- same as the 50MHz 486 DEC is selling. The computer would cold-boot
- immediately after inserting disk 1 in the installation.
-
- I didn't try the new os2ldr in gt16mb.zoo because this fix was
- supposedly for ISA systems not recognizing memory over 16 MB, not EISA
- systems with >16MB crashing. I just found out yesterday that someone
- else at Intel got OS/2 to load on one of these machines by removing RAM
- to make the system contain only 16MB. This person didn't know about the
- os2ldr fix.
-
- So I made a backup of the installation disk and copied over os2ldr with
- the fixed file, and it worked. So I guess the moral of the story is
- don't ignore the gt16mb.zoo patch if you have an EISA system and are
- having problems.
