- I have been reading the posts concerning video cards and monitors but would
- appreciate some advice.
-
- I am currently running os/2 with TCP/IP 1.2.1, X-windows and NFS on a Northgate
- 486/33 w/8mb RAM with an Orchid proDesigner IIs (1 mb ram) and a 14" Panasonic
- Panasync c1381 in VGA mode.
-
- Since I typically have 3-4 xwindow apps from a remote rs/6000 and 2-3 local
- programs up at a time, I need a bigger monitor, 17" min. High graphics resolution
- except for making the xwindows prettier isn't a high priority but would be a
- nice benefit.
-
- My budget for new card(if necessary) and monitor is $2000 although any money
- saved would go to increasing my RAM.
-
-
- 1) Can I keep my video card and run a bigger monitor?
-
- - if so do I need new drivers for the prodesigner?
-
- 2) What is the difference, theoretically and practically, between 8514a, XGA and
- SVGA, especially under OS/2?
-
- What is running now matters, not promises about next quarter.
-
- 3) Monitor suggestions - including vendors in US especially if they offer
- academic discounts.
-
-
- and only slightly related
-
- 4) Will increasing my RAM to 16MB increase my system performance dramatically (I
- am running a 600 MB maxtor drive off an esdi Adaptec 2322b - or will when I get
- my replacement for the one that jsut crashed.)
-
- Thanks in advance
- email or posts ok
