- Ok, Call me a sucker for believing OS2 was worth it. Please help me
- change my mind, ...
-
- The problem:
-
- I had os2.0 installed on a 486/33mhz. DOS 5.0 was also installed. My
- sister started up FULL DOS SHELL (fullscreen) used pcwrite, exited the
- shell, and turned off the computer. She wasn't aware she had to
- SHUTDOWN the computer using the menu option. Next day, she turns it
- on and gets an error msg.
-
- This msg claims that OS2CHAR can't be found and I should check my
- LIBPATH statement or make sure it's in the root directory. Well I
- checked and all appeared fine. TO make sure, I copied the config.sys
- from c:\os2\install to the top c:\ directory. Then it told me it
- couldn't find another .DLL file. (took me a few minutes to realize
- what a dynamic link library was)
-
- So I said, "heck, I'll just reinstall the critter from scratch"
- but it said "error copying UNPACK.EXE " and I thought, "DUH, it
- probably can't copy it if it's already there." So I deleted everything
- related to OS2 I could find off the system. Still os2 is out there
- because when I boot, it tries to load. So I powered off my system
- to clear any parts out of memory, and then tried to re-install the
- os2 thing.
-
- But it still can't copy UNPACK.EXE to the hard drive.
-
- Now I have a 120mb hard drive, plenty of free space (unless DEL
- isn't really deleting stuff)... (over 70mb free right now) ...
-
- SO WHY CAN'T I REINSTALL THIS! ... I'm at the point where I"m
- going to do a low-level reformat, and send ibm an irate letter
- w/the disks asking for my money back.
-
- Or do I have to do a low level format to reinstall... I want to leave
- DOS5.0 there and my programs on the hard drive... Please send me
- step by step instructions. (not that I'm computer literate but
- I don't wanta "goof"! )
-
- What if someone had a black out and didn't have time to shut down
- their system? That happens all the time here! ...arggggggggggh
-
- (yes, I'm a bit frustrated... I only bought os2 cause I wanted
- multi-tasking like my Amiga has.... It may crash once in a while,
- but my system at least is rebootable, plus I don't have to shut
- it down to turn it off/on!)
-
-
- Thanks for the help! Pam
-
- IBM System: 486/33mhz compatible, 8mb memory, 120mb harddrive, 3.5
- floppy version of 2.0.
