- Is there a 32-bit conversion [of PMFRACT] in the works?
-
- Donald Egan, the author of PMFRACT, doesn't follow this newsgroup
- (I don't think he has direct Internet/Usenet access). He *does*
- have a Compuserve ID, however, and you can reach him by sending a
- message to 75307.3143@compuserve.com.
-
- Don has shipped his 32-bit version of PMFRACT (labelled version
- 17.2 - like Winfract, he's now basing his version numbers on which
- version of Fractint's fractal engine he is using). He uploaded it
- to Compuserve's COMART forum on July 6th. Look in COMART in
- Library 2 ("New Uploads") for PMFRA2.ZIP (the EXEcutable) and
- PMFRS2.ZIP (the source).
-
- In the PM version of Fractint, despite its advantages over the
- interfaces of both the Windows and DOS versions...
-
- Ooh, fightin' words! <grin>. I wrote the original versions of
- both Fractint and Winfract, so I'm the one to blame for both of
- those interfaces.
-
- We might want to move further discussion along these lines to
- 'alt.fractals', though, where a higher percentage of the
- readers would be interested in it. Having said that, I'm going
- to ignore my own suggestion and respond to the next item right
- here - sorry, folks.
-
- OK, before I get too many replies to my message, I found that
- File/New does what (intuitively) it should have, versus File/Open,
- which allows the loading of a GIF or BMP. This is the way Fractint
- should have been a long time ago.
-
- No, no, no! Changing fractal types is just like changing inversion
- values, or biomorph values, or 3D values, or any of hundreds of other
- options - like changing the font or fontsize on your text editor.
- There is no reason to expect to find any of them in "File / New".
- Allow me to point out from your initial message that *you* didn't
- look in "File / New" for new fractal types at first, either.
