- HELP!
-
- I've been round and round with two different company's machines, three
- different hard drives, and hours wasted to try to fix this problem. I
- hope someone has experienced the same type of thing.
-
- I have a 486-33Mhz (Soyo motherboard, AMI bios), with a 200 Mb Conner
- HD set up as one big partition. OS/2 installed fine--like a champ--no
- problems. The system is quite stable. BUT--whenever I open a WPS
- window (like by double-clicking on the OS/2 system icon), it takes
- between 20 seconds and 3 *minutes* to close it!
-
- I've linked it somehow to the hard drive--I have an 80 Mb Maxtor with
- OS/2 on it, and when I plug that drive into the machine I don't have
- the problem. Also, I have a 486-33 with AMI bios and a Maxtor 120Mb
- HD at home and it doesn't have this problem.
-
- Is it a patch I need? Or do I need to repartition the HD into smaller
- chunks? That seems silly since HPFS was designed with big drives in
- mind.
-
- I also tried fiddling with the HPFS cache size. I bumped it up to 1
- meg and also tried 256K, and neither made a difference.
-
- I was planning on moving to OS/2 as my development environment
- at work, but this window-closing problem really makes that impossible.
-
- Detailed configuration:
-
- ACT 486-33
- Soyo 486-33Mhz motherboard
- 16 Mb ram
- Logitech Mouseman
- 200 MB Conner IDE HD
- 3com 3c503 ethernet card
- 2 serial/1 parallel/1 game/2 floppy multiple IO card
- Diamond Speedstar 24 vga board with 1Mb VRAM
- Tatung NI monitor
-
- Thanks in advance!
