- I am a beta tester for directory manager 2.0. This is a PM based file
- manager that is similar in spirit to Norton Commander. It is by no
- means a copy of the commander, but people used to using NC will find
- it very functional. It does some things better than NC, for example
- unlimited number of file windows can be opened which are tied to a
- directory window. Drag and drop is supported to the WPS, and a file
- viewer is built-in. Macros can be defined that launch apps with
- files selected and I have written a cmd file that allows file
- xtensions to be used to associate with specific apps. There is a
- command window that is not as convenient as NC's command line, but is
- functionally equivalent (you have to use ctrl-o to make it visible).
- Keyboard users are well cared for, and you can copy, move, rename,
- make directories, clone, etc files with pop-up boxes that are similar
- to NC's.
-
-
- All in all, it is the best NC look-a-like I have found for the WPS
- (and I have tried all the FTP ones I could find for OS/2). Directory
- manager 2.0 is in final beta test (code freeze with last release) and
- I would expect it to be available within a few weeks. You can find
- the previous release of directory manager 1.1d on ftp-os2.nmsu.edu
- (dirman0101c.zoo) however it lacks a lot of the functionality of
- the 2.0 release.) This is shareware and I don't know the price
- for the new release (1.1d was $35).
-
- (I am not associated with QB Software, and the above is strictly
- the opinion of someone who is an avid DOS NC user, namely me!)
