  26. Personally (and also having studied HCI) the single mouse button on the Apple
  27. Mac both is and isn't a failing.

  29. Is: Because to do certain things takes an awful lot of clicking and menu
  30.     pulling which is FAR easier on a 3 button mouse.

  34. Additional Points:

  36. Certain interactions on the Mac are a REAL pain in the ass needing wierd
  37. command, shift or option - mouse combinations. I'm always confusing them.

  39. RISCOS makes several of these easier like the ability to open a directory
  40. and close the parent (and vice versa) without resorting to mouse/key
  41. option. Also click a menu item without the menu subsequently disappearing
  42. (a pain if you want to set several things on the Mac).

  44. My opinion, Apple really should have introduced a 3 button mouse with the
  45. overhaul to System 7 and bundled it in with the bought package. The
  46. current mouse/key combination is similar to the much quoted 
  47. 'Control-Meta-Coke Bottle Syndrome' of EMACS in so much as there are
  48. many different combinations, even an experienced user screws it up.

  50. The Xerox mouse was if my reading is correct a 3 button job with the
  51. action of the buttons similar/the same as the way a mouse works under X.

  53. Mice on PC's. The 2 button mouse seems to be the standard (another
  54. Microsoft triumph !), spoiled mostly by Logitech and their 3 buttoner.

  56. However, most PC/Window's app's only use one button as setting many options
  57. is normally followed by clicking OK.. The right hand one is almost superfluous.
