  21. Simple.  A common floppy format across differen workstations would be
  22. a great idea.  Suns can read DOS-formatted disks right now.  Macs can.
  23. Amigas can.  etc.  Heck, even Yamaha synthesizers can read
  24. DOS-formatted disks!

  26. Although I don't think the DOS-FAT format is the best format for
  27. interchange, it's quickly becoming a de-facto standard in the computer
  28. world.  Why not run with it and make it a real standard.

  30. Personally, I think it's a waste of networking to ftp a program into
  31. the workstation on the other side of the room when I can just slip a
  32. floppy into it.  By that same token, I'd like to be able to ftp from
  33. an InterNet site (like ftp-os2) into a workstation, and then just copy
  34. it to a floppy and bring it home.  Right now, I have to zmodem-
  35. download it from the workstation into a PC to do this.

  37. I can get this effect with some Suns, but it'd be nice if all
  38. workstations worked this way.

  40. After this, all we need is a way for PC's to read Unix-standard tapes
  41. and make that a standard on this end of the processor spectrum.
