- A few experiences with the NT prerelease:
-
- 1. I cannot get my cheapo generic serial mouse to work on COM1.
- The setup procedure 'detects' a microsoft bus mouse (as does the
- Windows 3.1 diagnostics program - mde?). In any case, I have no
- problems under Windows 3.1 with the 'Genius' serial drivers, but
- I've tried several of NT's included mouse types (MS, Logitech serial)
- and they all fail to detect the mouse. I never tried the 'dos2nt'
- install.
-
- I used the 'NT Setup' program from the Administrator account
- to switch mouse types, but I never noticed a change to the files
- in \winnt\system. Clearly NT's registry mechanism is more subtle
- than a simple config.sys entry.
-
- But it is surprising how much work you can do without a mouse!
-
- 2. My package arrived with a $41.39 total ($29 + $10 shipping + tax)
- I was expecting $69+, so I'm not complaining. I just hope I am still
- entitled to the free future SDK releases (up to 1.0).
-
- Thanks for any info,
