  22. This is the monthly FAQ list (Frequently Asked Questions list) for the
  23. newsgroup comp.os.msdos.programmer.  It's intended to reduce the noise
  24. level in comp.os.msdos.programmer that results from the repetition of
  25. FAQs, correct answers, wrong answers, corrections to the wrong answers,
  26. corrections to the corrections, debate, etc.

  28. Because it's quite long, I've broken this list into four parts, of which
  29. you're now reading part 1.  (If you have last month's version of this
  30. FAQ list, you may want to look at the diffs rather than reread three
  31. long articles.  Look for "comp.os.msdos.programmer FAQ diff" in the
  32. Subject lines.)  I've posted the four parts of this article, and the
  33. four parts of diffs, as single threads so that most newsreaders will
  34. let you extract either of them in one operation.

  36. This list should serve as a repository of the canonical "best" answers.
  37. So if you know a better answer or even a slight change that improves an
  38. answer, please tell me!  (Use email, please.  Traffic in this group is
  39. high, and I may miss a relevant posted article.)  If the posting date is
  40. more than six weeks in the past, see instructions in the last part of
  41. this list for how to get an updated copy.

  47. ===========
  48.     To search for specific topics:  See the list of questions in the
  49. Contents section (immediately below) to find which article (part 2, 3,
  50. or 4) list you need.  In that part, then search for that question
  51. number.  For example, while you're reading part 2 of this list in trn,
  52. the command "gQ203" goes to Q203.
  53.     To skip one topic and go to the next:  Search for "Q" starting in
  54. column 1.  In trn and similar newsreaders, the command "g^Q" does that.
  55.     If your newsreader doesn't support searches, you can extract these
  56. articles to a file and use your favorite editor's search commands.
