  16. of used computers for Russian schools. Their site (lbte@caticsuf.csufresno.edu)

  31. Did you know that your old PC can get a second life? LOGOS Biblical Training
  32. International is now accepting contributions from everyone who cares about
  33. technical education in countries of CIS.  We take your 8088 or slow AT that
  34. hardly have any use in US anymore and donate it to russian christian or general
  35. education school.

  37. Many have heard that computer education in former Soviet Union is awful.  As a
  38. russian exchange student, I can confirm it.  In fact, most high school
  39. programming is taught on what we call "paper computers" (grader executing the
  40. program in their head)!  Others are using toys similar to Commodore.  Even
  41. university students are forced to learn FORTRAN and COBOL on hopelessly obsolete
  42. Hewlett Packard and IBM dinosaurs (i.e. pirated clones).

  44. Since high schools and universities are still exclusively state-(un)supported,
  45. situation is not going to improve soon. Broke government is not going to make a
  46. difference. Will you?

  48. We hope that the mission of LOGOS can help building technical bases for
  49. spiritual ressuraction of Russia. All contributions to LOGOS are fully
  50. tax-deductable.

  52. LOGOS accepts computers, printers, motherboards, hard drives, memory chips etc.
  53. We are primarily interested in IBM series (8MHz XT or better) and MACs.  All
  54. equipment should be functional and in reasonably good shape.  Shipment fee will
  55. be paied by us.  If you have a fast PC (like 386) and want to get SOME
  56. compensation for your contribution, you are welcomed to contact us.  However, we
  57. can't pay full market price.

  60. suggestion: computer leasing companies, universities with large CS department
  61. etc.
