  20. Hm, you say it's crash-happy?  I've never had that problem -- it's possible
  21. that you got a bad interim release of WP.  You may be able to get them to
  22. send you a new interim free (the latest is March 92, I think) by whining
  23. about it on the phone (hey, it's worked for me), but they may want to make
  24. you pay for it -- $10 for WP for DOS, I think.  As long as you make sure you
  25. ask for them, you get new printer drivers too.  (And yes, it really does
  26. change from interim to interim!)

  28. Also, WP _will_ crash during complex operations with large documents on an
  29. 8088 or on a 512K system.

  43. Don't use Parallel columns with block protect for complex stuff.  I also
  44. seem to remember that there is an explicit problem with block protect and
  45. tables.  You can always turn off parallel columns for a while and turn it
  46. back on.  Tables are like paragraphs:  You should be able to do a simple
  47. indent on it once you've got it to the right width.

  49. Also, you could use a table or a succession of tables instead of parallel
  50. columns.  That's what most of the office people that I teach opt for.  You
  51. could then create a simulation of a freestanding table in one "column" or
  52. another by simply showing the lines.

  54. Right off hand I don't know how well this stuff is explained in the book;
  55. you might try to lay hands on Acerson's 5.1 book or the ENCYCLOPEDIA
  56. WORDPERFECT (I think from Sybex).

  62. Personally, I suspect changing would be more difficult than staying.  Til
  63. something _really_ nice comes along.  That "really nice" thing is more
  64. likely to be able to read in WP 5.1 than TeX. 8-)
