  12. I have ported Stephen Uhler's MGR windowing system to the
  13. PC-Choices object-oriented operating system and I have made
  14. the port available through anonymous ftp.  (In case
  15. you haven't heard about PC-Choices, it's the least-hassle
  16. protected-mode operating system for 386/486 PCs that you
  17. can get for free; finger pcc@cs.uiuc.edu for details.)

  19. The port is somewhat unstable and buggy (if you use it long
  20. enough) but it's a good start.  I shall be leaving the PC-Choices
  21. project soon and I think it's a waste to abandon the MGR port,
  22. so if anyone would like to take over the PC-Choices version
  23. of MGR (or any other interesting projects of mine), I would be
  24. very happy.  Here's more info about MGR for PC-Choices:

  26. What is MGR/Choices
  27.  
  28.     MGR is a graphical windowing system by Stephen A. Uhler of Bellcore.
  29.     MGR/Choices is a port of the MGR windowing system for PC-Choices.
  30.     Multiple windows may be opened to start multiple invocations of
  31.     the PC-Choices shell.  Most PC-Choices text applications will
  32.     run properly under MGR/Choices.  The MGR/Choices package contains
  33.     several sample graphical applications.  The windowing system
  34.     runs in the 640x480 monochrome VGA display mode.

  38.     Same as PC-Choices, with 4 Meg additional disk space; 4 Meg of
  39.     extended memory; Microsoft, Logitech, IBM PS/2 or compatible mouse;
  40.     VGA display.  Version 0.5c of the PC-Choices kernel and application

  45.     ftp to choices.cs.uiuc.edu (128.174.240.21) and log in as
  46.     'anonymous'.  Go to the directory PC-Choices and fetch
  47.     the files pccmgr.zip and pccmgr.doc in binary mode.  Follow the
  48.     instructions in pccmgr.doc.  If there are problems, please

  51. Coming soon (probably at OOPSLA '92): The PC-Choices object-oriented
  52. file system that runs on hard disks and floppy disks formatted
  53. with DOS or BSD UNIX, and allows you to mount DOS file systems
  54. into a BSD file system and vice versa.
